The lovely flowers of Christmas cactus can be enjoyed all year. A few small care precautions help make that longer display possible.
Christmas cactus is a succulent named for its winter flowering season. Its blooms can nevertheless continue beyond that period when you give attention to the right conditions.
Here are the three things to keep in mind:
Keep the cooler conditions, modest watering, and removal of tired growth together in the routine.
- Temperature: This winter-flowering plant does not enjoy overly hot conditions. Keep it ideally at 13–15°C.
- Water: As with other succulent plants, it needs little water. The recommended routine is one watering each month, plus spraying the foliage with water.
- Cleaning: Remove weak sections that are brown or especially faded to help the flowers last longer. You can also place those pieces in soil, burying them so new roots can form.
