Ensuring your plants receive proper watering becomes challenging when you’re away for an extended period. While relying on others or trusted contacts is a common solution, there’s a simple and effective method to water your plants without assistance.

Infallible Method for Watering Plants When You’re Away:

Materials Needed:

  • Two plastic bottles (one larger, one smaller)
  • Marker
  • Cutter
  • Piece of fabric (35 centimeters long)
  • Aluminum foil

Procedure:

  1. Take the larger plastic bottle and cut off the bottom section, approximately six centimeters in height.
  2. Position the smaller bottle vertically inside the lower portion of the larger bottle.
  3. Use a marker to mark the maximum limit on the small bottle, corresponding to the height of the lower part of the larger bottle.
  4. Create a small square half a centimeter below the marked limit on the small bottle, using a different colored marker.
  5. Use a cutter to remove plastic from the marked square, creating a small window for water to exit.
  6. Cut a strip of fabric approximately 35 centimeters long.
  7. Place the fabric strip on a piece of aluminum foil and wrap the foil around the strip, leaving about 4 centimeters of fabric exposed.
  8. Fold the wrapped aluminum and place it inside the lower portion of the plastic bottle with the smaller bottle.

Drip Irrigation Setup:

  1. Position the base in the ground, ensuring a depth of about half a centimeter.
  2. Place the smaller plastic bottle filled with water inside the base, allowing water to flow out of the window and fill the lower part acting as a tank.
  3. Insert the wrapped aluminum inside the base, serving as a sprinkler.
  4. Water drops will begin to come out of the sprinkler, effectively watering the soil.

Adjusting Watering Speed:

  • If the irrigation occurs too quickly, tighten the wrapped foil to slow down water flow, ensuring proper and controlled watering.

This ingenious drip irrigation system, also suitable for potted plants, enables you to go on vacation for weeks without worrying about your plants suffering from insufficient watering.
