Regrettably, the summer season ushers in a variety of bothersome insects, with mosquitoes topping the list. Particularly in the evenings, their presence can make outdoor activities nearly impossible without falling victim to their bites. While numerous skin-friendly and chemical products are available on the market to repel or neutralize mosquitoes, here’s a natural remedy to keep these pests at bay, protecting your living spaces.

DIY mosquito repellent in minutes and for only 25 cents

  1. Select a Suitable Bottle: Obtain a bottle, such as a Coca-Cola bottle, and cut it approximately in the center, where the bottle narrows. Other plastic bottles can be used as long as they have a narrow exit hole.
  2. Prepare the Mixture:
    • Pour 300 ml of hot water into the base of the bottle, ensuring it doesn’t exceed 40°C to preserve the yeast.
    • Add 4 tablespoons of sugar and stir until completely dissolved. Introduce these elements separately to prevent the premature release of carbon dioxide, which attracts mosquitoes.
  3. Add Yeast:
    • Once the sugar is dissolved, let the water cool slightly.
    • When the temperature drops below 40°C, add a cube of yeast or 25 grams of powdered yeast to the mixture. Thoroughly mix the components.
  4. Assemble the Trap:
    • Take the top part of the bottle and insert it upside down into the other part containing the mixture.
    • Place the trap indoors or outdoors, securing the two parts of the bottle together with tape if used outdoors.
    • Change the mixture every three or four days to maintain effectiveness.

This cost-effective mosquito repellent can be assembled for approximately 25/30 cents, offering an excellent DIY solution to keep mosquitoes at bay. Enjoy mosquito-free living with this simple and efficient homemade remedy!
