The primary culprit behind black-tipped tomatoes is a deficiency in calcium, a vital nutrient for fruiting. The scarcity of calcium in the soil manifests as necrosis on the lower part of the fruit (specifically, the tip) and internal rot, rendering the tomato inedible.
While acknowledging the role of calcium deficiency, it’s crucial to clarify that black-tipped tomatoes aren’t solely a result of insufficient water. Plants need calcium to grow robustly, obtaining it through the roots from the soil substrate, which is ideally well-fertilized.

Overwatering or underwatering can hinder calcium absorption:
- Overwatering drowns the roots, impeding the absorption of essential nutrients, including calcium.
- Underwatering stunts root growth, hindering nutrient absorption, including calcium.
To remedy this issue, you can integrate calcium into the soil through supplements or natural ingredients. Milk, rich in calcium, is an excellent option.
