Plants that should avoid the windowsill:
1. Orchid: This plant, adorned with beautiful flowers, should steer clear of the windowsill as it thrives on continuous humidity. Direct sunlight from the window can scorch its leaves, potentially causing it to wither within hours. For windows exposed to the South, installing a curtain to shield it from direct sunlight is essential. Maintaining an internal temperature below 24°C is also crucial for its health and beauty throughout the year.
2. Christmas Cactus: Despite its affinity for light, the Christmas cactus should not be placed directly on the windowsill. It prefers to be away from any heat source, with daytime temperatures not exceeding 21°C and nighttime temperatures not surpassing 18°C. While it can be situated near the window, protecting it from harmful air currents is vital.
3. Christmas Stars: A symbol of positivity and prosperity during the festive season, the Christmas star plant should be kept away from windowsills with heated radiators underneath. Air currents and temperatures exceeding 21°C can be detrimental to this winter-exclusive plant.
4. Cyclamen: Known for its beauty and vibrant colors, cyclamen dislikes heat and direct light. Consequently, the windowsill is not an ideal location during winter and summer. A preferred spot is in an entrance area with a well-ventilated temperature of 16°C. Alternatively, placing it on a north-facing windowsill will be appreciated by the cyclamen.
